Performance Measures

Developing an IT Governance Balanced Scorecard

IT function can be measured by the balanced scorecard concept. This system measures and manages performance and even allows disparate metrics to be compared. As an example, the scorecard may show a deficit in financial literacy on the board (learning and growth perspective). Strategic changes (internal process perspective) would allow more rewards for stakeholders (stakeholders perspective) and provide a boost to long term results (financial perspective).

Turning back to IT specifically, such a scorecard would allow management of IT governance, with an ultimate goal of aligning IT and strategic perspectives. The IT balanced scorecard begins with a corporate contribution perspective and includes IT/business shared planning, along with the ability to gauge positive impact of IT initiatives on overall goals, toward the ultimate goal of more rewards for stakeholders and better long term results.
