Strategic Alignment

Strategic alignment prioritizes bringing IT in line to support long range enterprise goals, in effect using technology as leverage to accelerate growth and development. Alignment necessarily involves:

  • Review and understanding of business needs
  • Developing complementary IT strategy and objectives
  • Assigning resources
  • Managing demand
  • Executive and inter-departmental communication

Why Alignment Matters

When there exists a disconnect between IT strategy and business strategy, significant frustrations can result. More importantly, accomplishing business strategy that is at odds with IT strategy creates a situation in which success is difficult, if not impossible. The consequences include:

  • Business development falling short of potential
  • Lost opportunities where IT alignment could have made a difference
  • Potential higher operating costs
  • Competitive disadvantage as tech initiatives lag behind
  • Poor resource allocation
  • Diminishing stakeholder value
